Wedding Planning Guide

First things first. This is just a guide to help you with planning. It’s your wedding day and you can do literally anything you want. Traditional..non-traditional… it’s completely up to you! Have fun with the planning of your wedding day.

Now lets dig in. Here’s a timeline guide to help reduce the stress of planning. Leaving yourself enough time to get the things done that you want is a key to making this process fun and stress free.

9-12 Months Before

  • Pick a date & venue

This should be done at least a year out. Lately venues have been booking up at least a year in advance.

  • Book your photographer, Videographer or DJ!

Hopefully it's us! Click the check mark to see if we're available for your wedding date. We typically book up a year to a year and a half in advance. So don't wait too long or you won't get your first choice.

  • Develop a record keeping system

Having a system in place to keep track of what you've done and what you need to do will help make things flow. Also use this to keep track of all payments made.

  • Select and order Bridal Gown

Grab your squad and go shopping! Don't wait too long because alterations can take some time.

  • Get your passport

Work on rounding up your passports, visas, birth certificates or any documents needed for travel and/or marriage licenses.

6-9 Months Before

  • Select your officiant

You may want to meet with one or two officiants to see who matches with you both.

  • Pick out your wedding party

  • Get your attire for bridesmaids and flower girl

Make a day of it and have some fun!

  • Register for your wedding gifts

4-6 Months Before

  • Select and order invitations & other wedding stationary

Check out www.IDoInvitations.net for some ideas and amazing work.

  • Reserve Rental Items

  • Start planning your honeymoon

This is just pure fun. Doesn't hurt to speak with a travel agent who can get special rates and guide you to the perfect honeymoon

  • Select and order your wedding bands

  • Finalize your guest list

See who makes the cut to the greatest party of your lives!

2-4 Months Before

  • Make sure the invitations are mailed out

  • Get your photography permit, if needed

If you plan on leaving your venue for photos you may need a permit. Definitely check with your photo locations so there are no surprises.

  • Arrange for wedding day transportation

Not just your rides. Make sure guests that are staying at a hotel have a shuttle if needed.

  • Select ushers to seat your guests

This can be the wedding part but it's okay to include others, too.

  • Select and order decorations

Doing some decorating yourself? Now would be a good time to make sure you have everything ready for the big day.

6-8 Weeks Before

2-6 Weeks Before

  • Contact guests who haven't replied

  • Finalize food & beverages for the wedding

  • Finalize the ceremony details with the officiant

  • Print out seating cards

  • Finalize details with all of your vendors

1 Week Before

Wedding Day!

  • Eat breakfast (its a long day!)

  • Make sure Maid of Honor & Best Man have the rings

  • Make sure you have your marriage license and photo permits

  • Toss that engagement ring on the right hand

It's about to get some company!

  • Enjoy yourself!

Remember this is your day. Enjoy it for everything it has to offer. Don't get caught up in schedules or lists (ironic right, seeing that on a list of schedules?!)

I hope this little guide helps spark some ideas and get the ball rolling. Remember these are suggestions. You can do anything you want on your wedding day! Don’t want a wedding party… no problem! Want to avoid anything traditional, that’s okay, too. I firmly believe that this is a celebration. The goal of the day is to truly enjoy yourself and have the greatest day of your lives. When you’re making your plans, do what makes you happy and what would help keep your day stress free. We’re always here to help our couples with planning. Two months before your wedding day we’ll sit down and craft a photo timeline that will help you enjoy your wedding day.
