Some wedding venues have an elegant charm, while others exude an earthy, rustic vibe. Now, imagine my excitement when I got to shoot at a venue that beautifully blends the best of both worlds! Yes, you heard me right. When Bethany and Jim chose The Barn at Cauffiel in Wilmington, Delaware, as their wedding venue, I was super excited to document their special day at this unique location. From bright sun porches and sprawling lawns and gardens to the stunning interiors, the venue offered just the perfect setting for my couple to exchange their wedding vows. Every corner was gorgeous, and every spot photo-worthy. Bethany and Jim, I can’t thank you enough for giving me the chance to be your wedding photographer and bringing me to such a beautiful venue.

Bethany & Jim’s Beautiful Story

Every couple is unique, and every love story is special. And Bethany and Jim had an amazing proposal and engagement. Talking about how it all happened for them, Bethany gushed, “We were engaged during the height of the pandemic while we were on a Zoom call with my entire family playing bingo (took a break from the game for bathroom/snack and Jim proposed on our back porch). Jim told me, our dog ran away to get me run outside during the break of the Zoom call/game, and I immediately panicked and ran out to the backyard – only to find Jim standing there with the ring and homemade sign of lights in our backyard (our dog, Bailey, never actually ran away).”

“The only person Jim told beforehand was his younger brother (Kevin, our best man), who set up the sign in our backyard while we were on our Zoom bingo game/call. My family and his family were COMPLETELY surprised. Especially when I got back on the Zoom call to tell them we were engaged. The next day, my entire family planned and surprised a parade of cars up/down our street that were decorated and had signs to celebrate our engagement,” my bride recalled.

Just like Bethany and Jim’s incredible proposal and engagement story, their wedding at The Barn at Cauffiel was as beautiful. It was a cloudy day. But, during the ceremony, when Bethany walked toward her handsome groom, the sun came out and shined down on her. It was magical! She had gotten dressed at the Cauffiel Estate and did a first look for her groom before the outdoor ceremony. The way Jim looked at his bride was just adorable. And I was ready with my camera to capture the moment in a stunning frame.

With its formal parlor, an elegant dining room, and expansive lawns, The Barn at Cauffiel had the perfect setting to capture all the actions unfold. Be it the bride’s getting-ready shots against the dramatic French windows or Jim and Bethany posing by the barn, the picture-perfect location did not disappoint me at all. And with the newlyweds striking romantic poses for my camera against the lovely backdrops, I didn’t have a single dull moment. Photographing the bridal party was equally amazing. The little ones at the wedding added to the cuteness quotient of the images. At the reception, everyone had so much fun. The lighting was beautiful for indoor photography, and the fairy lights were just right for getting that dreamy effect. The speeches were heartwarming, while the first dance of the couple was full of chemistry.

Amid all the celebration and fun at the reception, I sneaked my couple out for some nighttime photography! The bokeh images we created together were nothing less than ethereal. Just like their photos, I hope my couple dazzles and shines into their new life together!
